After School Clubs
At Valley Christian Schools, All Around Learning Center hosts three after school clubs: Robotics, Coding and STEM.
Robotics Club is a perfect opportunity for both new and returning robotics students. We will have a lot of hands on fun building and programming Lego Mindstorm robots. Students will learn to assemble and program original designs as well as guided constructions. They will have a chance to create their own vehicles, animals, and humanoids out of Lego Mindstorm kits. Students with prior robotics experience are welcome and can apply their programming skills at an even higher level. They will be able to explore how light, touch, sound, and ultrasonic sensors can enhance their robots. Students’ designs will be tested in various challenge courses. We can’t wait to see the students; innovative designs in action!
Would your child like to create an interactive computer game, or learn how to use Scratch for introductory coding, or program a robot to do fun tasks? The coding club is for all the above.
The class is divided into three segments:
- + Programming and computer game design using KoduGamelab by Microsoft
- + Introductory coding by Scracth
- + Introduction to programming of Lego Mindstorms Robots
Our STEM club incorporates an interdisciplinary approach to learning. During the first part of the semester, students will explore fun engineering projects. They will be building skyrise structures, exploring how electrical circuits work and how light can be incorporated into their designs. Flying rockets and drones around their city will be an exciting challenge. As the projects progress, we will be taking pictures of the activities. During the second part of the semester students will learn how to design a picture book. They will create their own personalized photo book using pictures from the engineering projects or their own pictures from home (pictures of their pet, or sports, or favorite vacation can be brought in on thumb drive).
We hope to demonstrate the importance of STEM to our students through amazing hands-on activities.
